Rhinoplasty Surgery in Seoul, South Korea by Asan Medical Center

Refined Nose Surgery for Natural Facial Harmony, Improved Nasal Structure & Confident Appearance

Rhinoplasty Surgery, commonly known as nose surgery or nose reshaping, is a highly individualized facial plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the shape, proportion, and structure of the nose. Patients choose Rhinoplasty in Seoul, South Korea to refine nasal appearance, correct nasal asymmetry, improve the nasal bridge or tip, and achieve better facial balance. In some cases, rhinoplasty may also support nasal function when structural concerns affect breathing comfort. At Asan Medical Center, rhinoplasty is listed under aesthetic facial plastic surgery services within the Department of Plastic Surgery, which provides both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures.

🔍 What Is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty Surgery is a facial plastic surgery procedure that reshapes the nose by adjusting the nasal bone, cartilage, soft tissue, or nasal tip structure. The goal is to create a nose that looks balanced with the patient’s facial features while preserving a natural appearance. Rhinoplasty may address concerns such as a dorsal hump, wide nasal bridge, drooping nasal tip, bulbous tip, crooked nose, flat bridge, nostril imbalance, or overall nasal disproportions.

The procedure is planned according to each patient’s facial anatomy, skin thickness, nasal structure, and desired outcome. A surgeon may refine the bridge, reshape the nasal tip, narrow the nostrils, correct asymmetry, or improve the angle between the nose and upper lip. The surgical approach can vary depending on whether the patient needs cosmetic improvement, functional correction, reconstructive support, or revision rhinoplasty after a previous nose surgery. Rhinoplasty can be performed using an open or closed technique. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is placed across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils, to allow better surgical visibility. In closed rhinoplasty, incisions are hidden inside the nostrils. The most suitable technique depends on the complexity of the case, the amount of correction required, and the surgeon’s treatment plan.

🩺 Types of Rhinoplasty Surgery

  • Cosmetic Rhinoplasty – Improves the appearance of the nose by refining the bridge, tip, nostrils, or overall nasal shape.
  • Functional Rhinoplasty – Addresses structural nasal concerns that may affect breathing comfort or nasal airflow.
  • Revision Rhinoplasty – Corrects concerns from a previous rhinoplasty, such as asymmetry, irregular contour, or unsatisfactory shape.
  • Septorhinoplasty – Combines nasal reshaping with correction of septal deviation when functional improvement is needed.
  • Reconstructive Rhinoplasty – Restores nasal shape and structure after trauma, deformity, previous surgery, or medical conditions.

🩺 Who Is a Good Candidate?

Rhinoplasty Surgery may be suitable for adults who want to improve nasal shape, facial proportion, or nasal structure. Good candidates usually have clear goals, stable general health, and realistic expectations about what nose surgery can achieve. The best treatment plan depends on facial anatomy, nasal function, previous surgery history, and the patient’s preferred outcome.

✔️ Patients who want to improve nasal shape, size, or proportion
✔️ Individuals with a dorsal hump or uneven nasal bridge
✔️ Patients with a wide, flat, crooked, or asymmetrical nose
✔️ People with a bulbous, drooping, or poorly defined nasal tip
✔️ Adults seeking a more balanced facial profile
✔️ Patients who want natural-looking rhinoplasty results
✔️ Individuals with nasal structural concerns affecting breathing comfort
✔️ Patients considering revision rhinoplasty after previous nose surgery

📝 Consultation & Preparation

A detailed consultation is essential before Rhinoplasty Surgery because every nose has unique anatomy. The surgeon evaluates the nasal bridge, tip, nostrils, septum, skin thickness, facial balance, and breathing function. For patients traveling to Seoul, medical records, photos, previous surgery details, and health history help the care team determine whether rhinoplasty is appropriate and what type of approach may be recommended.

✔️ Review of medical history, allergies, medications, and previous surgeries
✔️ Assessment of nasal shape, bridge, tip, nostril size, and facial balance
✔️ Review of previous rhinoplasty records if revision surgery is needed
✔️ Discussion of desired nasal shape and realistic surgical outcomes
✔️ Facial photography for surgical planning and comparison
✔️ Possible imaging or diagnostic review when structural concerns are present
✔️ Blood tests and pre-operative medical clearance if required

🩺 Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery after Rhinoplasty Surgery is gradual. Swelling, bruising, nasal congestion, and tightness are common in the early stage. Many patients notice visible improvement within the first few weeks, but refined definition, especially in the nasal tip, can take several months to continue improving. Proper aftercare helps protect the new nasal structure and supports smoother healing.

✔️ Mild to moderate swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes
✔️ Nasal splint or dressing may be used during early healing
✔️ Temporary nasal congestion or stuffiness may occur
✔️ Keep the head elevated while resting during the first stage of recovery
✔️ Avoid pressure on the nose, including glasses unless approved
✔️ Avoid strenuous exercise until cleared by the medical team
✔️ Do not blow the nose during the early recovery period unless instructed
✔️ Take prescribed medications exactly as directed

The staff in the emergency room were all extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. Highly recommend for their awesome services! One of the patrol guys was super nice and went extra miles to help us booked a venti taxi as foreigners can't really book a 5 pax car. So thankful to meet someone so nice in our journey 💓 Great food selection in this hospital. They even have nasi goreng (Malaysia fried rice) here lol feels like home. The only slightly bad experience was the receptionists can't speak English/Chinese, but it's their attitude that disgust us the most. One of the lady receptionists rolled her eyes on me when I speak English. I don't think that's the best way to treat anyone esp in a professional setting. To Asan Management, please train your receptionists to be more professional in attending patients/visitors enquiries.

  • ASAN Medical Center is a leader in research and medical care. I was unable to get medical help here in the United States due to a lack of professionalism and discrimination. After, two years of research and a business trip to South Korea, I learned about ASAN Medical Center. I knew through research that they were the best in the world and I was determined to seek answers for my condition. It took 3 months but I was elated when Professor Ko ( who specializes in Gastric cancer, Robotic Surgery, Bariatric, and Metabolic Surgery, Hernia Surgery) was assigned to my case. In December of 2023, I was traveling again to South Korea and spent a week going through a plethora of tests. I was in awe of the care, and respect as a patient which I received, and the best part was Dr. Ko took the time to explain to me in detail what was discovered and the next steps. I remember crying alone on New Year's Day in my hospital room, for the first time there was hope. In 2024, I underwent 2 successful surgeries. In the United States, after the surgeon performs the surgery you never see nor hear from them. Getting access is impossible! Not at ASAN Medical Center. I saw Dr. Ko and Dr. Yoo every day and the rest of the medical team including the head nurse. My wounds were cleaned constantly by a wound care nurse, I had nurses every hour to 2 hours to check-in, and the International Nurse, Nurse Park checked on me daily. I also had the honor of working with a phenomenal nutritionist who is still instrumental in how I eat. I was never made to feel alone given that I was far away from home and going through a scary process by myself. I was treated as a human being for the first time and was never treated differently because of the color of my skin. As a patient at ASAN Medical Center, the patient matters. I had real conversations with my surgeons, I was not only healing physically but mentally and spiritually. I was given a second chance, a chance to live, a chance to be healthy, and a new journey to become better than before. I was so sad when I was leaving. However, I was provided with the tools to keep healing. I encourage everyone to think outside the box and seek other options. ASAN Medical Center was my best option and can be yours too. Now, I plan to travel to South Korea to ASAN Medical Center every year for my follow-ups and annuals. I will never trust anyone else with my health. Dr. Ko is a genius. There are no words to describe his incredible mind and brilliance. Dr. Yoo is not an ordinary surgeon, his phenomenal approach to patient care and his tireless efforts in ensuring that his patients succeed is phenomenal. They are both my rock throughout this process. I was blessed to have a great team and you can too. Never lose hope especially when you feel you cannot go on anymore. Keep fighting! ASAN Medical Center is far more advanced in technology, patient care, research, and professionalism than any hospital I have been to. Thank you, Professor Ko, Dr. Yoo, Nurse Park, the nurses, the staff, International Department! I highly recommend ASAN Medical Center to every patient. Seek the International Center-Nurse Jenny Park is the best! If you have similar needs to me, I highly recommend Dr. Ko and Dr. Yoo.
