An Inclusive Path to Parenthood
For individuals and couples who cannot carry a pregnancy, surrogacy offers the possibility of building a family through the help of a gestational carrier. At Inser Fertility Center, we guide intended parents through every stage of the surrogacy journey with medical expertise, transparency, and heart.
Inser is one of Colombia’s most experienced and internationally accredited fertility centers, offering a complete surrogacy program that combines advanced reproductive technology with legal and emotional support.
🔍 What Is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is an assisted reproduction arrangement in which a woman (the surrogate) carries a child for someone else (intended parents). At Inser, all surrogacy cases are gestational, meaning the surrogate has no genetic relationship to the child—she simply carries an embryo created from the intended parents’ or donors’ eggs and sperm.
The embryo is created via IVF, then transferred to the surrogate’s uterus. The surrogate undergoes thorough medical, psychological, and legal screening before the process begins.
🛠️ How the Surrogacy Process Works at Inser

- Medical diagnosis: visit with the specialist in reproductive medicine who will make a precise diagnosis of the clinical situation of the future parents to define that all the factors involved develop in the best possible way.
- Assessment of the legal context: before starting the clinical treatment, patients will contact an attorney who will support them in all legal aspects of the program. The attorney will also be the mediator in the intended parents’ relationship with the surrogate mother.
- Evaluation of the surrogate mother: the attending physician must carry out examinations and medical procedures to ensure that the surrogate mother is fit and healthy to carry the pregnancy without risking her health.
All stages of the procedure are carried out under the guidance and supervision of the staff on the psychology team. They will watch over the well-being of all the people involved and provide them with the necessary tools to cope better with all the emotional challenges the process entails.
✅ Surrogacy May Be Recommended When:

A surrogate uterus is an option for heterosexual, homosexual, and single parent families with conditions that make it impossible to conceive, and there is where the doctor acknowledges the necessity of a surrogate uterus to achieve gestation.
- Families in which the woman has a history of congenital absence of the uterus; history of partial or total hysterectomy; or medical or surgical procedures that caused irreversible damage to the uterus, making it impossible to carry a pregnancy.
- Single-parent families in which the woman has the same uterine conditions described above.
- Same-parent families of 2 women where both have the same uterine conditions described above.
- Homoparental families of 2 men
- Families in which the woman or women suffer from a disease that prevents them from carrying a pregnancy but whose long-term prognosis for life is still adequate
⚖️ Legal Framework for Surrogacy in Colombia
While Colombia does not have a specific surrogacy law, the legal system permits altruistic surrogacy with proper documentation and protections. Inser works with experienced legal partners to help intended parents:
- Draft and notarize surrogacy agreements
- Ensure the rights of both surrogate and parents are protected
- Navigate the post-birth legal process, including registration and passports (for international patients)
Commercial surrogacy (payment beyond expenses) is prohibited, but surrogates may receive compensation for medical care, housing, and transportation during the process.
